A new ad-hoc group of hacktivists calling itself "Connexion Hack Team" has published a list of email addresses associated with the US government including account information from the military, the Department of Homeland Security, the National Security Agency, and several state agencies.
Password information was withheld in the data dump for the most critical accounts, such as those connected to military domains, but password information was published for email accounts associated with Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, MSN, and Verizon accounts among others.
The source of the account information in the massive dump remains unclear, and the Connexion Team indicated they would not disclose that information.
“These [accounts] are random and do not ask which website they came from... We want everyone to know that we mean business here," the group stated.
The group also announced they are actively recruiting new members to participate in further exploits, and announced plans to create a website for participants.
"We need a new member on the team, so our idea is the person who hacks our website gets to be on the team,” the group stated.
